Who are we?

People's Republic of Australia (PRA)  is comprised of guitarist/songwriter Constantine 'Moris' Moraitis and singer/songwriter Chris 'Birdman' Beltsis and what we do amongst other things in our life, is attempt to make music. More importantly we endeavour to make music that is honest, moving, meaningful and brave. What brings us together is this love of creativity and self expression by the means of music, its universality and its great power to touch our souls, minds and bodies. As a great muso once aptly put it: “Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy. Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents.”

SOME HISTORY: Like every nation, PRA too has a history. To fully appreciate our creative journey to date, it’s important (or maybe interesting) to look where we’ve been and as such, PRA’s roots can be traced back its sonic mother, our former band Rain Factory (1990-1999).

About Minefield

PRODUCTION: The song was produced by PRA and engineered by Phil Smarty (Phoebe's Dream) with Lou Harbis on drums and Harry Torosidis on bass guitar.  The exquisite string quartet was arranged by Sydney based orchestrator and arranger Jessica Wells and performed by Veronique Serret  (violin), Mirabai Peart (violin), Shelly Soerensen (viola) and Oliver Miller (cello) & was recorded by Daniel Brown & James Ezra @ Trackdown Studios, Sydney. Jessica also arranged and played the piano.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?  Well, all that can be said is that it is about many things but for those who have ever “walked the desert with a horse with no name” will perhaps understand the essence of it. As writers, we know what it means for us and subsequently you as a listener can make sense of it in your own way. That is the beauty and power of art, it is open to interpretation, and if the words and sounds connect with you, then that’s what matters most.

Where to now?

In the next few months, we’ll be releasing another track, Tell Me What You Stand For, whilst continuing to work on our debut album which we hope to release sometime in 2010 and subsequently play a series of live shows. If what we do, gives you the listener as much pleasure as it gives us the creators, if what we sing and muse about resonates with you, then become a PRA citizen and join us on our sonic journey. ALL ARE WELCOME!
